50+ Years of Parent-Led Advocacy
With roots dating back to the 1950s and formal incorporation in 1975, ACT Parents (formerly the ACT Council of Parents and Citizens Associations) has represented the collective voice of parents, carers and school communities in ACT public education for decades.
Over more than 50 years, we have worked alongside P&C associations and parent groups to champion issues that matter, including equitable funding, strong school governance, inclusive education, student wellbeing and meaningful parent engagement. Through consultation and advocacy, we bring the experiences of families into policy discussions and help shape lasting improvements across the public education system.
Our work is built on the commitment of generations of volunteers - parents, carers and community members - whose time, leadership and advocacy have shaped the organisation we are today. We acknowledge and thank the many volunteers whose efforts built a strong and enduring voice for families and laid the foundations for our work today.
In 2018, we strengthened our advocacy by amalgamating with the Canberra Preschool Society, extending our voice from early childhood through to Year 12.
Rebranded as ACT Parents in 2025, we continue to build on this proud legacy, supporting and empowering parent voices across the ACT.
