Long service leave obligations in the ACT

What P&C employers need to check

If your P&C employs staff, long service leave obligations may apply under ACT law.

In addition to general long service leave entitlements, the ACT has portable long service leave schemes that apply to certain industries and types of work. These schemes are administered by ACT Leave.

If a P&C employs staff whose work falls within a covered industry, the association may be required to:

  • register as an employer
  • meet reporting or record-keeping requirements
  • comply with scheme-specific obligations

Whether these requirements apply depends on the type of work being performed, not the size of the employer or the number of staff.

Because these rules are industry-specific and can change over time, P&Cs that employ staff should check the ACT Leave website to confirm whether any long service leave obligations apply to them.
