School Boards & P&Cs
Both school boards and P&Cs play important roles in ACT public schools, but they do very different jobs.
Understanding who does what can help parents and carers know where to raise questions, share ideas and have their voice heard.
A school board focuses on governance and strategic oversight. Its role is to help set the overall direction of the school and provide accountability.
School boards typically:
School boards do not manage day-to-day school operations or deal with individual student or family matters.
School board members are elected, and the P&C usually has a representative on the board.

A Parents and Citizens (P&C) association represents the collective voice of parents and carers and helps build a strong school community.
P&Cs are independent, parent-led associations and are often the most accessible way for families to get involved in their school community.

Individual concerns about your child are usually best raised directly with the school.

Broader parent or community issues may be suited to discussion through the P&C.

Strategic or governance-related matters may sit with the school board.
