Eligibility Requirements for Committee Roles

Why AGMs matter

AGMs are the point where your P&C:

  • Reports to its members
  • Meets legal and financial obligations
  • Elects its committee
  • Sets the foundation for the year ahead

They are required by law, an accountability mechanism.

What happens at an AGM

Typically, an AGM includes:

  • Reports from office bearers
  • Presentation of financial statements (accounts) and reviewer or auditor’s report
  • Election of committee members
  • Appointment of an auditor or reviewer for the end of the next year

AGMs and compliance

AGMs support reporting obligations under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 (ACT) to Access Canberra and the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC).

Good practice tip

Keep reports clear, concise and focused on outcomes. A welcoming AGM encourages future involvement.
